🩺 What is a Stroke?

A stroke happens when the brain’s blood supply is either blocked or ruptured, cutting off oxygen and nutrients to brain cells. Within minutes, these cells begin to die. This can result in loss of speech, movement, memory, and even death. Immediate medical intervention can significantly reduce brain damage and improve recovery.

🧾 Types of Stroke We Treat

1. Ischemic Stroke
This is the most common type, caused by a clot or plaque blocking blood flow to the brain. Timely use of clot-busting medication or mechanical removal of the clot (thrombectomy) is critical.

2. Hemorrhagic Stroke
This occurs when a weakened blood vessel in the brain ruptures. It often requires blood pressure control, surgical intervention to stop bleeding, and reduce pressure on the brain.

3. Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA)
Often called a “mini-stroke,” a TIA is a temporary blockage that resolves on its own but serves as a red flag for future major strokes. It requires urgent evaluation and preventive treatment.

⏳ Know the Warning Signs – Act FAST

Use the FAST acronym to detect stroke symptoms and act immediately:

  • F – Face Drooping: Ask the person to smile. Is one side of the face drooping?
  • A – Arm Weakness: Ask them to raise both arms. Is one arm drifting downward?
  • S – Speech Difficulty: Is speech slurred or strange?
  • T – Time to Call Emergency: Call ONUS or dial 108 without delay.

Immediate treatment can save brain function and life.

🛠️ Our Stroke Treatment Protocol

âś… Emergency Phase

  • CT/MRI within 15–30 minutes of arrival

  • tPA (tissue plasminogen activator) – clot-busting medication administered within 4.5 hours

  • Mechanical Thrombectomy – a minimally invasive procedure to remove large clots from brain arteries

âś… Surgical Phase

  • For hemorrhagic strokes, our neurosurgeons perform:

    • Aneurysm clipping or coiling

    • Hematoma evacuation

    • Craniectomy to relieve pressure

âś… ICU Monitoring Phase

  • Dedicated Neuro ICU with 24/7 vitals tracking, sedation management, and neurological observation

  • Advanced ventilator support and ICP (Intracranial Pressure) monitoring when needed

âś… Rehabilitation Phase

  • Physiotherapy for limb mobility and balance

  • Speech & language therapy for communication recovery

  • Cognitive rehab for memory, reasoning, and attention

  • Robotic-assisted rehab (where applicable) for precision recovery tracking and support

âś… Herbal & Holistic Support

  • Neurologist-approved herbal neuroprotectants

  • Ayurvedic and yoga-based interventions tailored to patient recovery

  • Diet & lifestyle modifications for brain healing and emotional wellness
